Because Brown Rice Syrup is made from whole organic brown rice it retains much of the natural material of the grain, including fibre, protein, vitamins and minerals. Brown Rice Syrup is a good source of magnesium – which helps in relieving fatigue and relaxing the muscle, potassium which helps maintain blood pressure and lower fluid retention, and iron. It is a very good source of manganese which helps the body in the production of energy and antioxidant defences, and b-group vitamins.
As Brown Rice Syrup is a complex carbohydrate and not a simple sugar it has a much lower glycaemic index than most sweeteners. The sugars in rice syrup are predominantly maltose (45%), not glucose (3%), and take around and hour and half for the body to metabolise, while the soluble carbohydrates take around 2 to 3 hours. As a result Brown Rice Syrup provides a slower, constant release of energy over a longer time and is recommended for diabetics and anyone who wishes to avoid the temporary blood sugar spike that other sweeteners provide.
